Hi, my name is Christin Roman.
I’m a User Researcher with 14 years of experience in the tech industry. Billing myself as a user experience designer for years, I’ve been known to design digital products and services, define product strategies for companies, and even product manage when the situation called for it. But the driving force behind everything I do has always been a desire to learn about people – to understand their problems and to help create solutions.
Since 2006, I’ve worked with clients and startups from a variety of industries, from media to non-profits to fashion to financial services, and everywhere in between. I have taught at SVA, NYU, and General Assembly.
Now, as a Director at Type/Code in NYC, I lead the charge on research and strategy, while still overseeing UX design.
The name of this blog comes from a quote from Red Burns, the founder of the Interactive Telecommunications Program, where I got my graduate degree at NYU. One day she said to our class, “I hate robots…” After a confused and uncomfortable silence, she continued “I don’t believe in artificial intelligence, I believe in artificial augmentation.” She founded ITP, an innovative technology program, on the simple idea that the technology shouldn’t be used for technology’s sake, but to help people. It’s an idea that got me interested in technology in the first place and that still informs my work today.
